Aptos Labs has announced a major partnership with African fintech firm Yellow Card to introduce instant, gas-free stablecoin transfers across 20 countries on the continent.
The collaboration aims to significantly improve the affordability, speed, and accessibility of crypto-powered financial services for millions of Africans.
According to a Yellow Card survey, over 54 million people in Sub-Saharan Africa currently use crypto assets, with stablecoins becoming increasingly popular in regions with limited access to the US dollar and volatile local currencies.
Africa also leads global P2P crypto trading volumes, with seven of the top 10 countries for peer-to-peer trading based on the continent, as per data from Intelpoint.
Zero Fees and Instant Transfers
By leveraging the high-speed capabilities of the Aptos blockchain, Yellow Card users will now be able to send and receive USDT and USDC instantly and without gas fees.
The integration combines Yellow Card’s widespread financial network with Aptos’ advanced Layer-1 infrastructure to streamline everyday transactions and cross-border remittances.
“By eliminating gas fees and enabling instant payments on the robust, next-generation Layer-1 Aptos network, millions of people will be able to use USDT and other stablecoins faster and more affordably for everything from cross-border transfers to everyday purchases,”
said Gillian Darko, Head of Strategy at Yellow Card.
Aptos Labs is backed by major investors, including a16z, PayPal Ventures, and Franklin Templeton. Its blockchain supports over 11,000 transactions per second with sub-second finality.
In addition to the African partnership, Aptos Labs is expanding in Japan through its acquisition of NFT platform HashPalette and powering the official wallet app for Expo 2025 in Osaka.
