Perplexity AI has unveiled its new Deep Research tool, designed to streamline the research process by completing tasks in under 3 minutes. This tool allows users to conduct in-depth research quickly, offering Pro users 500 daily queries, while free users are granted limited access. The tool synthesizes information into comprehensive reports, positioning Perplexity against industry giants like OpenAI and Google.

Led by Aravind Srinivas, Perplexity AI aims to save users hours of research time by performing analysis and summarizing complex topics swiftly. Previously offering DeepSeek R1, Perplexity now strengthens its platform with Deep Research, setting its sights on direct competition with AI heavyweights such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini.

To use Deep Research, users select the new option in the model picker under the search box. The AI conducts numerous searches, reviews hundreds of sources, and logically determines the next steps. After gathering the source material, it produces a “clear and comprehensive report,” which can be exported as a PDF or shared as a Perplexity page.

Deep Research provides expert-level analysis across various fields, including finance, marketing, and technology. It also acts as a personal consultant for areas such as health, product research, and travel planning.

Although Perplexity admits that its Deep Research tool lags behind ChatGPT in Humanity's Last Exam accuracy rankings, the company claims that it outpaces competitors like Gemini Thinking, o3-Mini, Grok 2, and Claude 3.5 Sonnet in terms of speed and affordability.

Perplexity’s Deep Research is touted as “an order of magnitude faster and cheaper” than OpenAI’s offering, making it an attractive option for those needing rapid results.
