• Mark Jennings, former COO of Kraken's European operations, has been appointed as Gemini’s Head of Europe.
  • Vijay Selvam, previously with Gemini's APAC team, is now International General Counsel, leading regulatory strategy in Europe and the U.K.

Crypto exchange Gemini has unveiled a new leadership team in Europe, signaling its commitment to growth in the region. Mark Jennings has been appointed as the company’s Head of Europe, while Daniel Slutzkin takes on the role of Head of the U.K. The announcement comes as Gemini aims to significantly expand its European footprint in 2025.

Jennings, formerly Chief Operating Officer for European operations at rival exchange Kraken, brings a wealth of experience to his new position. Slutzkin joins Gemini from U.K.-based broker Stake, adding further depth to the firm's leadership.

In addition, Vijay Selvam has been named International General Counsel and will operate out of the U.K. Selvam, previously with Gemini's Asia-Pacific (APAC) team, will oversee the company’s licensing and regulatory strategy in Europe and the U.K., which are key regions for the firm’s growth plans.

This leadership shake-up coincides with the European Union's upcoming implementation of the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulations. Member states are expected to adopt MiCA rules by December 30, 2024. The U.K. is also preparing its own crypto regulatory framework through the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).

Mark Jennings expressed his enthusiasm in a press release, stating,

“Joining the team at this transformative time is a unique opportunity and shows that Gemini is serious about our commitment to Europe.” He added, “The regulatory frameworks in the EU and the U.K., including MiCA and the FCA's forthcoming crypto roadmap, signal a new era of sustainable growth for digital assets.”

Gemini’s strategic appointments and focus on compliance underscore its ambition to become a leader in the European crypto market. With regulatory clarity on the horizon, the firm is well-positioned to capitalize on the region’s growing interest in digital assets.
