- Google has pulled Gemini from its primary iOS search app.
- The move is part of broader efforts to optimize AI integration on iOS.
- Changes may affect the search experience as Google refines its generative AI offerings.
Google recently announced that it has removed the Gemini feature from its main search app on iOS.
This decision is part of a broader strategic effort by the tech giant to refine and optimize its generative AI offerings across platforms.
The Gemini feature, which had been integrated into Google Search to provide advanced AI-driven results and interactive capabilities, will no longer be accessible via the iOS app.
Google has not disclosed detailed reasons for the removal but indicated that the change comes amid evolving technical and regulatory requirements.
This move encourages users to download the standalone Gemini app instead, allowing Google to compete directly with other chatbots like ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Claude.
However, this move could potentially limit Gemini's reach, as Google's vast user base may not align with the strategic direction the company intends to pursue.
The leading tech giant notified its customers of the change via an email that warned “Gemini is no longer available in the Google app.”
Although this app was launched to iOS users worldwide late last year, Gemini remained available within the main Google app until now.
Gemini for iOS enables users to converse with its AI assistant via Gemini Live and connect with Google apps like Search, YouTube, Maps, and Gmail.
Users can ask questions, explore topics, plan trips, receive AI-generated summaries and deep dives, create images, and more—using text, voice, or their camera.
Customers who wish to upgrade to the paid subscription for Gemini Advanced can do so directly within the iOS app, where the Google One AI Premium plan is available as an in-app purchase.
If an iOS user attempts to access Gemini through the main Google app, a full-screen message will appear stating “Gemini now has its own app” with a link to download it from the App Store.
