Snowflake is expanding its startup accelerator with an additional $200 million in funding, reinforcing its commitment to fostering early-stage innovation in cloud-based data solutions and AI-driven products.

The company announced the expansion on Thursday, highlighting its ambition to support startups developing industry-specific AI applications on the Snowflake platform.

Formerly known as the Powered by Snowflake Funding Program, the Snowflake Startup Accelerator provides technical support, co-marketing opportunities, and AWS cloud credits to its participants. Some of the program’s notable alumni include Coalesce, Andrew Ng’s LandingAI, and TwelveLabs.

A portion of the new $200 million will be sourced from Snowflake’s VC partners, including Bain Capital Ventures, Blackstone Innovations Investments, Bessemer Venture Partners, Capital One Ventures, General Catalyst, Greylock Partners, Hetz Ventures, Mayfield, NewBuild Venture Capital, NTTVC, and Virtue.

However, Snowflake has clarified that participation in the accelerator does not guarantee funding from these firms, nor is the full target amount guaranteed to be invested.

Beyond the accelerator expansion, Snowflake has announced additional investments in AI, including the development of a 30,000-square-foot AI hub at its Menlo Park campus and a $20 million AI upskilling initiative.

The company continues to strengthen its AI capabilities, recently expanding its partnership with Microsoft to provide access to OpenAI’s models. Additionally, Snowflake established a multi-year agreement with Anthropic and acquired AI data pipeline firm Datavolo late last year.

Snowflake’s aggressive investment strategy appears to be yielding results. The company exceeded Wall Street expectations for Q4 2024, generating $987 million in revenue. With AI-driven expansion at its core, Snowflake continues to cement its position as a leader in cloud data solutions and emerging technologies.
