• ProtectMeWell’s health insurance rule engine, once limited to financial institutions and advisors, is now available to end users.
  • India faces a 73% health insurance protection gap, leaving nearly 40 crore individuals without adequate coverage.

ProtectMeWell, in partnership with personal finance firm 1 Finance, has launched its hyper-personalised health insurance rule engine for individual users, marking a major expansion from its original B2B focus.

Initially designed for financial advisors, institutions, brokers, and insurers, the tool now aims to help end consumers navigate India’s complex health insurance landscape.

The move comes in response to India’s staggering 73% protection gap, which leaves nearly 40 crore people without adequate coverage.

The idea behind the platform emerged from a personal challenge faced by Sumit Ramani, Co-founder and Actuary at ProtectMeWell.

After leaving his corporate job in 2017, Ramani struggled to secure health insurance for his family, despite his professional background.

He was overwhelmed by technical jargon, excessive fine print, and the sheer complexity of options—a reality that still affects millions across the country.

The rule engine was initially built to assist financial professionals in providing accurate, data-backed recommendations across a client’s financial needs. By automating a detailed needs analysis and integrating hyper-personalisation, it helped advisors simplify decisions for their clients.

“This rule engine simplifies the evaluation process, helping advisors guide customers through informed decisions that protect their financial well-being,” said Manju Dhake, Senior Vice President at 1 Finance.

Now, the collaboration seeks to bring the same level of personalisation and transparency directly to consumers.

The platform’s scoring and ranking system assesses complex parameters and financial circumstances to deliver customised recommendations.

“This isn’t guesswork or sales-driven advice,” Ramani emphasised, reinforcing the tool’s consumer-first ethos.

Keval Bhanushali, CEO and Co-founder at 1 Finance, added that their research-backed approach ensures clarity and confidence for both advisors and customers alike.
