European fintech provider payabl. has announced an integration with PrestaShop, a leading open-source e-commerce platform, to enhance payment solutions for online merchants.

This partnership, disclosed on June 20, 2025, aims to optimise the crucial checkout experience for PrestaShop’s 250,000 merchants.

The new plug-in connects PrestaShop users directly to payabl.'s comprehensive payment infrastructure. This provides access to over 300 local payment methods, card acquiring, multi-currency support, & fraud prevention, all designed to ensure a secure and scalable checkout process.

This development arrives as Europe’s e-commerce sector prepares for significant growth. Sales are projected to rise by 16%, from USD 389 billion in 2024 to USD 565 billion by 2029.

This expansion is attributed to an improved economy, increasing adoption of omnichannel strategies, enhanced price transparency, and the proliferation of cross-border marketplaces.

A key driver for this growth remains the checkout experience, with payabl.'s research indicating that "43% of customers say they would not return to a retailer after a poor checkout experience".

In parallel with this partnership, payabl. recently launched its Virtual Business Cards in June 2025. This service expands payabl.'s offerings, providing businesses with enhanced control, security, and visibility over spending.

This move aligns with broader trends in B2B payments, where the value of global B2B virtual card payments is forecast to reach $14.6 trillion by 2029, representing 83% of the total virtual cards market.

The appeal of multi-currency features and real-time, cross-border functionalities are significant driver for this growth, particularly amidst ongoing global uncertainty.

The current landscape of European digital payments in 2025 further underscores the timeliness of this collaboration.

Trends such as AI-driven payment solutions for enhanced security, the enforcement of SEPA Instant Payments Regulation (IPR) requiring real-time transactions by October 2025, and the increasing dominance of digital wallets (with over 60% adoption for online transactions in Western Europe by 2024) are reshaping consumer and business expectations.

This integration positions payabl. and PrestaShop to address critical needs in a rapidly evolving market.

By prioritising a secure and frictionless checkout, they are responding to immediate market demands along with strategically positioning merchants for sustained growth within Europe’s dynamic digital economy.

The alliance highlights an essential focus on robust payment infrastructure as a cornerstone for future e-commerce success.
