• OpenAI secured a $4 billion revolving line of credit, which includes a potential $2 billion expansion.
  • OpenAI launched a new ChatGPT interface, "canvas," for enhanced writing and coding, currently in beta for Plus and Teams users.

OpenAI has announced a significant financial milestone, securing a $4 billion revolving line of credit from a consortium of nine banks, including Wells Fargo, JPMorgan Chase, and Santander. This credit line accompanies OpenAI's recent $6.6 billion funding round, pushing the company’s post-money valuation to $157 billion. The credit line provides OpenAI access to over $10 billion in liquidity, enabling it to invest in new initiatives and operate with flexibility.

Notably, the arrangement includes an option to expand by another $2 billion and carries a 6% interest rate. OpenAI, which is projected to generate $3.7 billion in revenue this year, anticipates $5 billion in operational losses due to high expenses.

In addition to financial developments, OpenAI has unveiled a new interface called “canvas” for ChatGPT, aimed at enhancing writing and coding capabilities. The canvas interface allows users to work in a separate window where they can generate, edit, and fine-tune content or code.

OpenAI product manager Daniel Levine described it as a "more natural interface for collaborating with ChatGPT."

Additionally, users can prompt ChatGPT to generate an email or code directly within the canvas window and make adjustments by highlighting sections or using features like “add comments” and “review code.”

The canvas feature, currently in beta for ChatGPT Plus and Teams users, will expand to Enterprise and Edu users next week. Once fully rolled out, OpenAI plans to make canvas accessible to all users, including those on the free tier.
