El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele met with Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk at the Tesla Gigafactory in Texas on Saturday. They discussed various topics, primarily focusing on artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and the future of humanity.
Bukele later shared a video from their meeting on social media, expressing his enjoyment in spending hours with Musk, whom he called “one of the great minds of our time.”

Musk later responded on X, praising Bukele as “an amazing leader.” He said:
“Just had an excellent conversation with President Nayib Bukele. We talked a lot about the nature of reality, future of humanity and how technology like AI and robotics will affect the world.”
Bukele is in the US to attend the 79th United Nations General Assembly in New York during the last week of September.
El Salvador is focusing on adopting AI and other technologies to generate revenue and reduce its reliance on the US dollar, especially after the widespread use of Bitcoin, which is currently valued at $63,488.
ARK Invest CEO Cathie Wood recently forecasted that El Salvador's GDP could grow tenfold by 2029. After meeting with President Bukele in May, Wood discussed potential investments in Bitcoin, AI, and other tech innovations, as well as tax policies.

Wood commended President Bukele's vision, saying he is committed to making El Salvador a hub for Bitcoin and AI, two major economic and technological revolutions. He believes this focus could lead to a tenfold increase in the country's real GDP over the next five years.
