• Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Digital Economy, Hon. William Kabogo, endorsed the privately developed Kenya Token ($KDT), launched on the Solana-based Meteora platform.
  • $KDT aims to onboard 55 million Kenyans into the digital economy through tools like pre-installed wallets and AR-powered education.

In a move signalling growing alignment between civic tech and government support, Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy (MICDE), Hon. William Kabogo, has expressed strong support for a privately developed national digital token.

In a video statement released on X, Kabogo praised the initiative as a powerful representation of Kenya’s identity, technological ambition, and inclusive digital future.

Launched the same day on the decentralised platform Meteora under the ticker $KDT, the Kenya Token was developed and distributed independently by private innovators.

Promoted via the hashtag #Kenya_NDT, the token is intended to celebrate civic pride and drive digital participation both within Kenya and across the diaspora.

The MICDE noted the token’s alignment with Kenya’s broader digital transformation goals and highlighted the potential of public-private partnerships in creating visibility, encouraging economic inclusion, and fostering national engagement.

Powered by Solana and Built for Inclusion

Built on the Solana blockchain, the project leverages the platform’s hallmark features: speed, affordability, and global scalability.

Inspired by Solana’s IBRL (Increase Bandwidth, Reduce Latency) AI Agent Framework, the Kenya Token reimagines blockchain as a tool for open access and equality.

Features include pre-installed wallets, AR-powered education, and on-chain incentives, specifically targeting underserved regions such as Kibera.

The Ministry confirmed that it is closely observing such digital innovations and intends to engage with stakeholders to explore regulatory frameworks and strategic collaborations that support responsible, citizen-driven technology development.

With the ambitious goal of onboarding 55 million Kenyans into the digital economy, $KDT represents a significant civic-led step toward real-world Web3 adoption in Africa.
