Bengaluru-based payments technology firm Juspay has open-sourced its payments routing engine as part of its Hyperswitch initiative, aiming to give merchants greater transparency and control over their payment systems.
The move allows businesses to self-host the software, integrate with their preferred payment gateways, and define transaction rules without relying on third-party routing solutions.
According to the press release shared with Newzchain, with this development, Juspay seeks to provide merchants with a flexible and customizable payment infrastructure that aligns with their specific business needs.
By open-sourcing the routing engine, the company aims to democratize access to enterprise-grade payment solutions, allowing businesses worldwide to shape its evolution through community contributions.
The company has also stated that eEarly adopters in India and globally have already begun integrating the technology, influencing its roadmap and development. The routing engine forms the first step in Juspay’s broader plan to open-source additional components of the payments stack, expanding access to advanced payment orchestration tools.
The open-source module includes three key features: an advanced success rate optimization algorithm, automatic failover protection to handle downtimes, and rule-based routing with over 100 configuration options. These functionalities aim to enhance transaction reliability, optimize costs, and eliminate vendor lock-in.
Commenting on the initiative, Sheetal Lalwani, COO & Co-founder of Juspay, said,
"Our vision is to make payments open, transparent, and accessible – so that businesses can focus on growth rather than payment complexities. With the launch of the open-source routing engine, we are making payments orchestration a truly interoperable and community-driven software, empowering merchants to build their own stack with complete freedom and flexibility."
Juspay, founded in 2012, provides enterprise payment solutions to global merchants and banks. The company specializes in payment orchestration, authentication, tokenization, analytics, and fraud management.
With operations in Bengaluru, San Francisco, São Paulo, Dublin, and Singapore, Juspay processes over 200 million transactions daily, handling an annual total payment volume exceeding $670 billion.
