• Imarticus Learning acquired MyCaptain for Rs 50 crore to expand into non-tech career education in tier 2 and 3 cities.
  • MyCaptain has 5 lakh learners, with 60% from smaller cities and a reported NPS of 70.

IPO-bound professional education firm Imarticus Learning has acquired Bengaluru-based edtech startup MyCaptain for Rs 50 crore. This move marks Imarticus' fourth acquisition in four years as it accelerates toward a 5-million-learner target by FY28.

With MyCaptain’s expertise in creative and new-age career programs, Imarticus deepens its presence in non-tech skilling, particularly in tier 2 and 3 cities across India.

Founded in 2016 by Mohammed Zeeshan, Sameer Ramesh, and Ruhan Naqash, MyCaptain offers live cohort-based learning, bootcamps, and mentorship in areas such as digital marketing, content creation, and design.

The startup boasts 5 lakh learners, of which nearly 60% hail from tier 2 and 3 cities. With a revenue of Rs 27 crore and EBITDA breakeven last year, MyCaptain primarily serves students and early professionals, 80% of whom are exploring creative or entrepreneurial career paths.

The acquisition brings over 60 live programs into the Imarticus fold, which will now be offered through its 20 training centres in 16 cities.

Additionally, MyCaptain’s college campus network of 1,500+ institutions positions Imarticus to enter the college skilling segment and engage learners earlier in their career journeys.

Founded in 2012 by Nikhil Barshikar and Sonya Hooja, Mumbai-headquartered Imarticus has used strategic acquisitions to fuel growth ahead of a potential IPO.

Previous deals include the acquisition of Hero Mindmine in 2023, StratOnBoard in 2022, and Eckovation in 2021.

“Our collaboration with MyCaptain marks a pivotal step in strengthening Imarticus’ vision to be the lifelong career partner for learners across their journey,” said Barshikar.

Following the acquisition, Imarticus’ workforce grows to over 850. The deal also brings a group of ex-founders into leadership roles, adding entrepreneurial expertise to scale MyCaptain’s offerings fivefold in three years.
