The Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) marked its 42nd foundation day with a renewed commitment to advancing medical research alongside providing healthcare services.
Speaking at the event on Wednesday, IGIMS Director Dr. Bindey Kumar urged doctors to focus on research, assuring them that financial support would not be a constraint.
Dr. Kumar announced that the institute had received ₹3 crore in extramural funding from the central government to support medical research. He also highlighted key medical achievements at IGIMS, including nearly 1,000 cornea transplants and 160 kidney transplants conducted at the hospital.
The celebrations also included the institute’s 11th Foundation Oration Day, where renowned nephrologist Dr. Vivekanand Jha was felicitated. Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Jha emphasized the critical role of research in medical advancements.
"Research helps in finding new and better ways of treatment and benefits mankind," he said.
The event was attended by several distinguished guests, including Dr. Sanjay D'Cruz from the Government Medical College and Hospital, Chandigarh, who served as the guest of honor. Also present were IGIMS nephrology department head Dr. Om Kumar, IGIMS superintendent Dr. Manish Mandal, and Dr. Amresh Krishna from AIIMS-Patna.
The program was moderated by Dr. Sangeeta Pankaj, while the vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Ranjeet Guha. The occasion underscored IGIMS’s focus on integrating research with patient care to enhance medical outcomes.
