• HP purchases Humane’s assets for $116 million, marking a significant tech deal.
  • The acquisition effectively ends Humane’s AI Pin project.
  • HP plans to integrate Humane’s technology into its broader product lineup.

HP Inc. recently announced that it has made a definitive agreement to acquire key AI capabilities from Humane for $116 million.

This includes their AI-powered platform Cosmos, highly skilled technical talent and intellectual property with more than 300 patents and patent applications.

Through this acquisition, HP is hoping to accelerate AI software investments by integrating AI into its hardware and software ecosystems and to transform the future of work.

With an immediate halt on sales of its $499 AI pins, Humane has already notified its customers that the devices already purchased will stop functioning before the end of the month.

This would mean the devices would no longer be able to connect to Humane's servers and will not be capable of calling, messaging, AI responses or the cloud access.

The company says customers who bought an AI pin in the last 90 days are eligible for a refund, according to an FAQ, but anyone who bought a device before then is not.

Humane has advised caution on the important photos and data to be transferred to an external device immediately.

Humane also plans to dissolve its customer support team for the AI Pin on February 28.

“We’re excited to join HP at such a pivotal moment in the industry and help shape the future of intelligent experiences,” said Bethany Bongiorno and Imran Chaudhri, Co-founders of Humane.
“HP’s scale, global reach, and operational excellence—combined with our design-led approach, integration technology, and engineering expertise—will redefine workforce productivity.”

Industry analysts view the move as indicative of a broader trend, with traditional tech giants seeking to harness emerging AI technologies through strategic acquisitions.

The $116 million deal not only underscores the value of Humane’s technology but also highlights the competitive pressures in the wearable and AI sectors.

While Humane’s AI Pin project will no longer see a commercial release, the startup’s assets are expected to contribute significantly to HP’s ongoing research and development initiatives.
