• FIFA has partnered with Avalanche to launch its own Layer 1 blockchain, starting with the migration of its digital collectibles platform, FIFA Collect.
  • The new blockchain aims to deliver scalable, low-latency, and fan-centric digital experiences, with Avalanche’s architecture chosen for its speed, customizability, and interoperability.

In a landmark move for sports and blockchain, FIFA has chosen Avalanche to power its own proprietary blockchain, marking a major step in its long-term Web3 strategy. The FIFA Blockchain, a custom Layer 1 (L1) network, is being designed to enhance global fan engagement and deliver scalable digital collectibles through platforms like FIFA Collect.

The partnership signals a shift from fragmented third-party platforms to purpose-built digital infrastructure, giving FIFA full control over its blockchain experience for a global fanbase exceeding five billion people.

“This is about streamlining operations, delivering better user experiences, and future-proofing our fan engagement tools,” FIFA stated.

Why Avalanche?

Avalanche was selected for its high throughput, low latency, and support for custom sovereign networks that remain fully interoperable with the broader Avalanche ecosystem and Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM).

The FIFA Blockchain aims to handle millions of users, especially during peak events like World Cup matches, and Avalanche’s sub-second transaction finality and minimal fees offer the resilience needed to ensure seamless experiences even during traffic surges.

“They’re not just embracing blockchain—they’re building a foundation for global-scale digital ownership,” said a representative from Avalanche.

The First Use Case: FIFA Collect

The first application to migrate to the new blockchain is FIFA Collect, the official platform for buying, selling, and trading football-related NFTs. The marketplace is developed in collaboration with Modex, a blockchain technology company with prior experience building FIFA’s digital collectibles.

“This enhances our ability to deliver immersive fan experiences, with EVM compatibility that ensures ease of use and access,” said Francesco Abbate, CEO of Modex.

FIFA and Modex aim to expand FIFA Collect’s capabilities with faster transactions, improved security, and more customizable digital offerings.

What’s Next?

While details on future initiatives remain under wraps, FIFA hinted that more blockchain-powered offerings are in the pipeline, aimed at deepening fan interaction and broadening access to exclusive digital content and experiences.

The rollout is not just a milestone for FIFA but also a major validation for Avalanche’s enterprise-grade architecture. It cements the blockchain as a top-tier choice for legacy institutions looking to scale digital ecosystems without compromising on performance.

“FIFA’s blockchain signals how real-world brands can enter Web3 through tailored, interoperable infrastructure—bringing blockchain to billions,” Avalanche noted.

As sports and entertainment industries push further into Web3, FIFA’s embrace of a dedicated blockchain infrastructure could serve as a model for other global organizations eyeing the next evolution of digital engagement.
