- EA has acquired TRACAB Technologies, known for real-time soccer tracking, to enhance realism in future EA Sports FC titles.
- The acquisition follows financial struggles for EA Sports FC 25, with EA looking to improve gameplay and regain momentum in the soccer gaming market.
Electronic Arts (EA) has acquired TRACAB Technologies, a company specializing in real-time soccer tracking data. The acquisition is expected to enhance the realism of future titles in the EA Sports FC franchise, which replaced the FIFA series following EA’s loss of the FIFA license in 2022. The terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
TRACAB Technologies is known for its ability to capture detailed match data, including over 600 million data points per game and live skeletal tracking from 21 joints per player.
EA Sports president Cam Weber emphasized the importance of such advancements in sports gaming, stating, “Data is at the center of every meaningful advancement” and that the acquisition will contribute to making upcoming EA Sports FC games more realistic.
While EA Sports FC has previously integrated real-world match data, TRACAB’s technology is expected to provide a higher level of detail and accuracy. However, it remains unclear whether this technology will be implemented in EA Sports FC 26 or in later editions.
The acquisition comes at a time when EA Sports FC has faced financial challenges. A recent financial report revealed that EA Sports FC 25 underperformed, contributing to a 16% drop in EA’s stock value. The company’s other major release, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, also struggled commercially. Despite these setbacks, EA Sports remains a significant revenue driver, generating around $2 billion annually.
In contrast to EA Sports FC’s recent struggles, EA saw strong performance in other areas, particularly with EA Sports College Football 25. The game, released exclusively for current-generation consoles, sold over 25 million copies and became the best-selling sports video game in U.S. history.
As EA integrates TRACAB’s technology, the company aims to regain momentum in the soccer gaming market. Industry analysts will be watching closely to see how this acquisition impacts the future of the EA Sports FC franchise.
