• Five Palestinians were killed by Israeli forces and one was killed by Palestinian security forces in the West Bank within 24 hours.
  • The death toll has exceeded 30 since Israel's major West Bank operation began in January.
  • International observers have expressed alarm at the scale of the operation, which has displaced tens of thousands of Palestinians.

Five Palestinians, including a 60-year-old woman, were killed by Israeli forces in Jenin over the past 24 hours, the Palestinian Authority announced on Tuesday.

In a separate incident, Palestinian security forces killed a man wanted for previously firing on their headquarters.

These latest fatalities bring the death toll to more than 30 Palestinians since January when Israel launched a major military operation involving thousands of troops in cities and refugee camps across the northern West Bank.

Israeli special forces engaged in a gun battle with armed Palestinians barricaded in a Jenin house, killing two and wounding another, according to the Israeli military. In a separate confrontation, troops killed a man who opened fire on them.

The Palestinian Authority reported that Israeli forces at a checkpoint also killed a 60-year-old woman, though the Israeli military has not immediately commented on this incident.

The previous evening, a Palestinian man died when his motorcycle was struck by an Israeli army vehicle.

The death caused by Palestinian security forces drew condemnation from Hamas, which warned of "serious repercussions" following the killing of the man wanted for previous attacks on security force headquarters in Jenin.

As gun battles continued around Jenin on Tuesday, Israeli troops detained 10 Palestinians and seized two vehicles containing weapons, the military reported.

While many of those killed since January have been armed fighters from militant groups, numerous uninvolved civilians have also lost their lives.

The operation has forced tens of thousands of Palestinians to flee their homes as troops move through refugee camps, demolishing houses and infrastructure, including roads and water pipes.

Israel maintains the operation targets Iranian-backed militant groups, including Hamas and Islamic Jihad, that have established strongholds in crowded townships housing descendants of Palestinians displaced during the 1948 Middle East war.

The scale of the operation has alarmed international observers, with countries including France and Germany, along with the United Nations, calling for restraint.

In a separate incident on Tuesday, armed Israeli settlers attacked the village of Umm Safa near Ramallah, approximately 100 kilometers south of Jenin, setting fire to three vehicles according to the village council head.
