AllTrails, the acclaimed hiking and biking app named 2023’s iPhone App of the Year, is rolling out a new premium membership tier called “Peak.”

Priced at $80 per year, Peak introduces a suite of advanced features powered by artificial intelligence, aimed at making outdoor adventures safer, smarter, and more personalised for its 80 million-strong user base.

The standout feature is AI-powered custom route creation, allowing users to build their ideal trail from scratch or modify existing routes. Smart routing lets adventurers adjust trails to be shorter, less steep, or more scenic, catering to individual preferences and fitness levels.

Real-time and forecasted trail conditions now go beyond weather, offering insights on temperature, precipitation, snow depth, air quality, and even mosquito activity.

Future updates will add terrain details like pavement, gravel, or mud, helping users plan better and avoid soggy or hazardous conditions.

Peak also debuts a trail traffic heatmap, leveraging activity data from millions of users to help hikers and bikers avoid crowded trails or find busier routes for safety.

Another innovative addition is the Outdoor Lens feature, which uses AI and your phone’s camera to instantly identify trees, plants, flowers, and even insects-turning any hike into an educational experience and letting users log their discoveries in-app.

The Peak tier includes all features from AllTrails’ Plus and Base memberships, while those tiers are also being updated with new Points of Interest and offline area downloads.

The Peak rollout begins with select users in the coming weeks and will be available globally by June.
