• Airtel has partnered with SpaceX to introduce Starlink’s high-speed satellite internet in India, pending regulatory approvals.
  • The partnership will enable Airtel to offer Starlink services to businesses, rural communities, schools, and healthcare centers.

Telecom giant Bharti Airtel has announced a strategic partnership with Elon Musk-led SpaceX to introduce Starlink’s high-speed satellite internet services in India. The agreement, the first of its kind in the country, is contingent on SpaceX securing regulatory approvals to sell Starlink services in India.

This collaboration aims to expand Airtel’s connectivity solutions by integrating Starlink’s capabilities, enhancing its service reach, and strengthening its position against rival Reliance Jio.

Airtel and SpaceX will explore opportunities to distribute Starlink equipment through Airtel’s retail stores and provide Starlink-powered services to businesses, rural communities, schools, and healthcare centers.

By adding Starlink to its portfolio—alongside its existing partnership with Eutelsat OneWeb—Airtel seeks to bolster nationwide connectivity and bridge the digital divide in underserved regions. The partnership will also leverage Airtel’s ground infrastructure to support SpaceX’s satellite network in India.

Gopal Vittal, Managing Director and Vice Chairman of Bharti Airtel Ltd., emphasized the significance of this collaboration, stating,

“Working with SpaceX to offer Starlink to Airtel customers in India is a significant milestone and further demonstrates our commitment to next-generation satellite connectivity.”

The Starlink enterprise suite will enable Airtel to offer comprehensive connectivity solutions for enterprises and businesses. SpaceX’s President and Chief Operating Officer, Gwynne Shotwell, highlighted the impact of the collaboration, stating,

“We are excited to work with Airtel and unlock the transformative impact Starlink can bring to the people of India.”

With this partnership, Airtel continues to strengthen its telecom infrastructure, ensuring reliable internet access across India’s most remote regions. The collaboration underscores the growing role of satellite broadband in bridging connectivity gaps and fostering digital inclusion.
